The main research fields include the development and implementation of methods of teaching humanities in the context of formation of linguistic competence of medical students. Gained teaching and research experience is summarized in complex scientific research: "Methods of forming sociocultural competence of students at higher educational institutions" (2006–2009 years); "Formation of linguistic competence of medical students in the study of humanities and Social Studies "(2009–2012 years). Since 2012 the department staff has been working on complex scientific theme: "The formation of discursive foreign language competence of future health care workers using innovative technologies."

The research object – teaching and speech activity of future health care workers. The aim is to develop, justify theoretically and approbate experimentally the formation methods of discursive competence of future health care workers using innovative technologies.

The Department Staff takes an active part in national and international scientific and methodological conferences and symposia. Teachers carry out research in philology and pedagogy, including teaching methods and history of pedagogy. Subjects of scientific and methodological teachers’ research are associated with the department specialty and cover a wide range of problems in methods of teaching languages.

In 2014 the teaching staff of the department published 43 Scientific Articles (including 4 with impact factor), 70 theses (including 10 abroad). Teachers are actively involved in national and international scientific and methodological conferences and symposia. In particular, during this year, teachers participated in 30 international and national conferences, forums and seminars.

On November 6-7, 2014, the Regional scientific and practical conference "Education and Medicine in the Era of Globalization: Domestic and Foreign Context" was held by the Department of Foreign Languages and Medical Terminology.
